The Answer to All My Dreams
pop quiz; from start to finish, Mr. White wants everything
So, for the past couple of ski seasons we’ve been based in the little known ski resort of Fieberbrunn: it is well known to Freeriders as the World Tour visits; although it has been cancelled for the past two seasons!, and German day trippers, but pretty much, no one else. This season our horizons will be broadened as Fieberbrunn gets joined to Saalbach-Hinteglemm-Leogang with the opening of a couple of new lifts, but more importantly, a couple of new pistes and even more importantly, easier access to a whole mountain of off-piste powder-ness; and the're renaming it The Big White Bang.
Now I don’t know if the name has got lost in translation, but what?! The Big White Bang?!
Of course, we have skied in these areas before, as we made full use of our Kitzbuheler AllStar, Tirol Snowcard or Salzburg Super Ski season passes, but this season The Big White Bang will be our new playground. The new, bigger resort opened officially on 19th December with a prize pillow fighting competition; ‘unfortunately’ we weren’t be able to make it, but we are hopeful that it is snow and not feathers waiting for us when we arrive in January.
New Ski Lifts: New Ski Pistes
The thought of sitting in a brand new gondola got me thinking about the number of other new lifts opening for this coming ski season. A little bit of digging and SkiResort.Info gave me what I was seeking, and I was shocked: They list a total of 188 new ski lifts opening around the world for the forth-coming ski season. With each ski lift costing several million Euros, that’s a lot of cash being fed in to ski infrastructure. Looks to me like ‘Climate Change’ hasn’t put a dampener on ski resort investment yet; thumbs up from me.
