Faster Than a Cannonball
pop quiz: the brothers we love to hate; or is that the brothers who hate each other?, offer us a seven minute anthem
Black Friday is just two days away, so instead of shopping I thought I'd share a black ski run, a two minute trip down La Sarenne in Alpe d’Huez, with you.
Also known as the champagne run - if you complete it without stopping you deserve a glass of bubbly; this piste runs 16km from Pic Blanc at 3,300m and drops 2.2 vertical km.
Doesn't look too bad, especially at this speed; it would normally take at least 20mins.
Technically the piste is a mix of red and black runs and includes 'Le Tunnel'; famous in its own right. Probably the most difficult bits are;
- Moguls on the steep bits churned up by beginners, who really shouldn't be there.
- Avoiding beginners stood at the top of all the steep bits, who really shouldn't be there.
- Burning thighs; from about 10km you wonder why you are there.
- Finding someone to buy you a glass of champagne at the end.
Whatever ski resort you find yourself in Friday is always a good day to test yourself on a black run; it has got to be better then shopping.
pop trivia: 'Oasis' with 'Champagne Supernova', the closing track on '(What's the Story) Morning Glory?', interestingly, never a single in the UK.
